Moving into a new apartment or home is a major change in anyone’s life. Regardless of whether it’s a local move or you’re relocating to another state, it will take some time to adapt to your new address. One of the ways you can make this transition easier is by holding on to some of your beloved furniture. Although you may be under a different roof, few things bring the comfort of relaxing on your favorite sofa as you watch TV. However, not all furniture is worth moving to your new home. Here are 5 key signs that certain furniture is not worth moving.
Bad Condition
We all have that one comfortable chair that we sit in every day after work. However, if the legs are barely supporting you, it may be time to get rid of it. For some, the dining room table is the favorite part of the home. If you can relate, it doesn’t mean you should hold on for dear life to a table that is discolored and in need of a major facelift. When you have furniture in bad condition, it’s a sore sight in your home and makes it less attractive. Do yourself a favor and get off to a good start in your new home. This means leaving behind furniture that’s old and worn down.
Oversized
Having furniture that’s too large for a room is incredibly difficult. It makes it hard to comfortably move around a room and presents decorating challenges as well. So, as you prepare to start a new chapter in a different space, don’t bring the same issues along with you. This is especially true if you’re planning to downsize. Just think about it for a second. If a bed is too big for your current bedroom and you’re moving into a smaller one, it’s wise to just buy a smaller bed to avoid the headache. Do some shopping and score a great deal. Trust us, you’ll thank us for this one.
Too Pricy to Move
Let’s be honest. When moving day arrives, some things will be much easier to lift than others. In essence, some of your possessions will cost more to relocate too. If you have hard-to-move items that you no longer value or use, this may be the perfect chance for you to leave it behind. Do you own an old grand piano that doesn’t work but you’ve been holding on to? Consider getting rid of it. It will save you time and money during the moving process. We often hold on to things that once served us purpose. Don’t be afraid to trash, sell or donate items that you no longer want. This is an excellent way to stay within your budget during a move.
No Longer Fits Your Style
Being human means consistently growing and evolving. When you moved into your current place, maybe you were really into traditional style and this led you to buy huge comfortable couches and a dining room set made out of wood. However, years later as you’re about to move into a new home, maybe you are now into all modern styles. This means that you want your new furniture to be sleek and eye-catching. If this is the case, it means that your old furniture is not worth moving. Be honest with yourself and leave the things that no longer fit behind.
You Can Afford New Furniture
While all of the reasons above are certainly valid, sometimes it just comes to do you asking yourself if you want new furniture and if you can afford it. If the answer to both of those questions is yes, then go ahead and leave the old behind. New furniture is an excellent way to cement a new start and get excited about moving into a new home.
