Our garage packing suggestions are intended to make the difficult chore of packing up the odd-shaped and heavy garage items easier for you. Believe it or not, there is a proper way to pack up a messy garage or outdoor items. Here are some methods to sort through and package all of your garage and lawn care belongings.
- To begin, you want to start the organizing process. During and after organizing, it is likely you will have less to pack after throwing out all of the items you find yourself not needing or forget you stored in the garage.
- Before you begin packing, you first must properly dispose of non-shippable materials such as pesticides, fertilizers, oil, and gas. Then, start to gather items together that are similar in shape and size – like long-handled tools (rakes, brooms, etc.). You won’t need to actually “pack” these type of items, but they are easier to store in a moving truck once collected together. Set these items aside to get working on the real packing.
- Are you bringing your child’s swing or playground set? It may be easier to break these items down weeks before your move. Safely and carefully collect all the small hardware in a plastic bag and label. Securely attach corresponding equipment so it is easier to rebuild once you arrive at your new location.
- When packaging pots and planters, you will want to individually wrap small ceramic planters and other fragile items with a lot of cushioning. It will be easier to dump your soil and start over with your plants after your move. Moving with live plants can cause a whole set of issues and time restrictions. Trust us, your life will be easier if you only bring your pots without the soil and plant.
We will leave you with our last tip of the day – how to properly pack a grill. First, dispose of any old charcoal in the grill. Clean the grill very well and cover with the grill cover. The grill will have to be carefully loaded and safely secured in the moving truck, so it doesn’t roll around during transport. Remember, you must remove the tank as it cannot be transported in a moving vehicle.
When moving to your new place, starting fresh with a garage is the perfect excuse to have an organized garage. As you unpack, be purposeful when placing and storing items. Have a plan, build shelves or racks and label items so you can easily see from the outside what’s hidden inside.
Happy moving!
