Don’t fret – you don’t need to consume all the wine in your house before you move. Even though drinking while packing definitely makes moving less stressful, you will need to save some of that wine to celebrate your first night in your new home!
Like other glass products, your wine bottles and wine glasses require special care while moving. Even something like the temperature is a factor to take into consideration when planning your move to keep your wine in its delicate state. To minimize the risk of damaging your valuable wine and wine accessories, follow the steps below:
- Similar to how you store your white and red wine at home, it is important to transport the bottles with the corks pointing in a downward direction. This will hold the wet corks, avoiding your wine from spoiling.
- After settling into the new digs, you will need to wait at least a week before popping open a bottle of your wine. The purpose of this, is that the wine needs time to settle and rest before it is consumed. Like the rest of your belongings, the wine has been shifted back and forth creating a lot of bubbles which will require some time for it to be in perfect condition to drink!
- When packing wine glasses, it’s no secret that layers of padding between each glass is key to avoiding broken glass. Although the glasses are fragile, the packing of each glass should be tight and packed comfortably with a lot of layers – be generous with the cushioning. Providing cushion in the inside of the glass is just as important as the outside. Make sure you stuff paper or styrofoam nuggets inside each glass.
Cheers!
