Moving with a baby is difficult, as any parent can relate. Moving the child’s nursery, fortunately, isn’t as difficult. Here are some suggestions for moving a nursery fast and efficiently, from properly cleaning and preparing nursery equipment to strategizing and arranging the packing process.
- First, declutter – Most likely, you still have clothes that don’t fit your kid and toys that your child no longer plays with. Purging will make your relocation not only less expensive (after all, the less you move, the less you pay), but also easier to pack.
- Decide which non-essentials to bring first – Make sure to pack all non-essentials first when packing up the nursery. Extra diapers, clothing that won’t be for a while, toys, books, picture frames, and mirrors are just a few examples. Pack critical goods such as necessary clothing, bibs, bottles, and everything else your child uses on a daily basis. Pack these things in a separate bag to take with you.
- Wrap your pillows and linens in plastic wrap – Before being put into a box, wrap the sheets, pillows, and crib mattresses with waterproof plastic wrap. When relocating, linens are especially sensitive to filth, grime, and mold. By labeling this box with the bedding, you won’t have to go digging through piles of boxes as your baby will most likely need their bedding on the first night in your new home.
- Dismantle the crib and cover the mattress with a sheet – Make sure you deconstruct the child’s crib before transferring. This will make it easy to transport the crib and reduce the possibilities of it being damaged while in transportation. Unscrew the bolts on all sides of the crib while your partner holds it in place. After disassembling the crib, pack the legs separately from the sides. Wrap the crib mattress in a stretchy sheet and keep all of the linens in its own box (as mentioned in tip #3). Bolts and screws are all too easy to lose in the shifting process due to their size, so make sure to carefully label and secure in zip loc baggies.
