It seems as though the world has come to a complete halt in the past ten months due to the world-wide virus as we have come to known (and hate) as COVID-19. Though the virus has captured the attention of many, it has not stopped families and singles from moving or purchasing their first home during this global pandemic. Why is this? Well, with the rise of COVID-19 cases, you will find a continuous increase of people working from home to ease the spread of the coronavirus. This new reality of working from home has contributed to people needing and wanting an at-home environment that serves as an office space and a space for living. The positive of working from home has allowed individuals to realistically work from anywhere as long as they have internet. In turn, forcing and encouraging people to move to better fit their new lifestyle. If this is the case for you and you are looking to move, take into consideration the following tips to help make your move during a global pandemic a piece of cake!
1. Virtual Consultations and Estimates – Just like the rest of the world, moving companies have had to adapt to the new “normal”. In such cases, many companies now are offering virtual consultations and estimates to provide a quote for your move. During your consultation, make sure to ask about their COVID-19 protocols. Confirming that their staff and movers wear and use protective gear while entering your house and moving your items is good to know.
2. Order Your Materials Online – If you thought you loved Amazon pre-COVID, you can bet your bottom dollar that we love Amazon now!! You can literally buy anything on Amazon, including moving materials. Skip the multiple trips to the store to buy supplies and order everything in bulk online. Amazon Prime has a great return policy so don’t fret if you don’t end up using something you purchased.
3. Clean – In most cases, the previous owners of a house do not have to deep clean after moving all of their belongings out of the house. You always want to clean your space before moving in and placing all of your furniture, but it is even more important now to sanitize the heck out of your new digs. We recommend ripping out old carpet and replacing with new flooring and steaming hardwood floor to kill any bacteria with the heated steam. Clorox and bleach should be used to clean bathrooms and surfaces. Replace or deep clean all handles and light switches throughout the house.
On moving day, make sure to follow all COVID-19 safety measures and practice social distancing while around others. When interacting with a moving company make sure to wear a mask and remain 6 feet apart from the professionals. Happy moving!
