What you should know:
With over 145 years of experience, ADT is one of the most recognizable names in home security. When it comes to protecting the things you value most, why wouldn’t you want a company that has such a proven track record? Let’s take a deeper dive into ADT and examine some of the pros and cons of the iconic company.
PROS:
Multiple Monitoring Centers
What exactly is a monitoring center? In essence, it is a place where well-trained individuals who are professional monitors work hard to help keep you safe. With six monitoring centers around the country (more than any other home security company), ADT certainly has the staff in place to put your mind at ease. With multiple monitoring centers, the risk of you being stranded when you need assistance drastically decreases. For instance: If one call goes offline for any reason during an emergency, your call will automatically get transferred to another center.
Professional installation
If you’re not the handiest person in the world, having professional installation is a huge deal. The last thing you need is to be stressed out over installing something and you have no idea where to start. With ADT, you can leave the wires, cameras and installation instructions to the professionals while you kick back and relax. Having professional installation doesn’t only save you time and aggravation, but it also gives you the confidence that your equipment will work correctly from the start. Getting a tutorial is another benefit of having professionals install your home security equipment. This is the perfect opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have and learn the tips and tricks of your new equipment.
Customer service
Any company that has been in business for over 100 years has to be pretty good at customer service, right? Luckily for you, ADT is no exception. With six monitoring centers around the country, ADT has to employ quality, knowledgeable professionals who take pride in their jobs. With 24-hour customer service and short hold times, it makes perfect sense why ADT has had over 6 million satisfied customers over the years. An excellent customer service team makes everything easier, in good times and bad.

CONS:
Pricy with early termination fees
As far as home security systems go, ADT is one of the more expensive ones on the market. With packages ranging from $45 – $60 per month, it stands out when compared to much cheaper options. Additionally, ADT has a steep early termination fee. If you decide to cancel your ADT service before your contract expires, 75% of your monthly service charge will be due on the remaining balance of the initial contract term.
Long contracts
If you have commitment issues, ADT may not be the company for you. While ADT doesn’t require a monthly charge for their equipment; they do require you to sign a 36-month monitoring contract (24 months if you live in California). If you are the type of person who has never used a home security company, signing up for 3 years right away may seem a bit overwhelming. With no trail period offers to test their services, ADT forces you to decide.
Additional Fees
In addition to the expected taxes, ADT comes with additional fees and charges. Service and installation/activation fees are required as well as additional charges for the guard response service for municipal alarm verification. If you’re looking to save money, seeing these additional fees can definitely be a deterrent.
